                            Friday, April 10, 2:30-3:30pm

                                       1175 Benedum Hall

The talk will describe the modeling efforts going on in our research group. These include development and analysis of (partial differential equations based) mathematical models that describe relevant physical phenomena, accurate and stable numerical methods for their discretizations, and efficient parallel algorithms for the solution of the resulting algebraic problems. The general modeling approach is based on a multiblock methodology that allows for coupling different physical processes, different mathematical models, and different discretization methods in a single simulation. Applications of interest include enhanced oil recovery, ground water and surface water contaminant remediation, and inflammatory processes in the human body.
