Electronic Structure: Basic Theory,

Modeling and Simulation

Term: Spring 2010

Course Number: CHE 3920

Day, Time: Tues/Thurs 2:00 - 3:15 pm

Location: G28 Benedum

Credits: 3.0

Course Description: The purpose of this course is to provide insight into the intellectual challenges related to the theory of electrons in condensed matter and the wide scope of applications of electronic structure theory.  The course will cover mainly density-functional theory, which is by far the most widely used in electronic simulations.  Additionally, advanced topics such as quantum Monte Carlo and GW approximantion will be reviewed.  Finally, students will be provided with hands-on experience in modeling and simulations using electronic structure theory.

Instructor: Wissam Al-Saidi
