The Center for Simulation and Modeling at the University of Pittsburgh is dedicated to supporting and facilitating computational-based research across the university.  Faculty and staff working within the Center come from a wide range of disciplines, including astronomy, biology, chemistry, economics, engineering, health and medicine.  Areas of research with special emphasis are: energy and sustainability, nanoscience and materials engineering, medicine and biology, and economics and the social sciences.

The Center for Simulation and Modeling staff help users utilize the latest advances in parallel computing by providing personalized consulting.  Faculty, research associates and students may contact Center staff directly or may take advantage of the various mini-courses offered through the center.

Multidisciplinary research is fostered through seminars, workshops and visiting scholars programs sponsored by the Center for Simulation and Modeling.  We invite you to explore our website and contact us for more information.

The Center for Simulation and Modeling has assembled a group of more than 50 faculty members from across the University who are engaged in computational research.  These include faculty in Chemistry, Biology, Computational Biology, Physics and Astronomy, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics and several of the departments in the Swanson School of Engineering, as well as faculty from the Schools of Public Health, and Medicine, and the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs for the purpose of leveraging both their work and expertise.

Educational Component

The Center builds on its research capabilities with additional thrusts in education including the development and delivery of graduate and undergraduate courses in simulation and modeling.

The Center complements the teaching, service and research responsibilities of participating faculty by providing the services of expert Simulation and Modeling consultants who work with faculty, postdocs and students connected with the Center in designing and implementing a new generation of computational software designed for tackling multiscale problems using high-performance computers as well as grid computing environments.

Outreach Component

The Center works with university, government and private partners and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center to develop solutions and to make southwestern Pennsylvania a hub for simulation and modeling.
